The Shoot, Week Two, the final part: “I just hate horses”

Bank holidays over and done with and our first day back filming Bollywood Baraat saw us at Ford Farm Stables in Brockenhurst shooting a sequence with Norg (not his real name – I can’t spell his real name – sorry Nora) the horse and Nora the horses owner.

The Shoot, Week One, Part Two: “He’s Such a Nice Boy.”

So the question on day three was how do you stain an actor yellow (or nearly yellow) when you have four more days to shoot. For that we turned to make up lady extraordinaire, Aneela Hussain. If I am honest I don’t know what the answer is to the question. As a director there are just some things you don’t need to know as somebody else gets to deal with the problem, and I didn’t need to know because our shoot had Aneela, so she had the joy of trying to find out the answer to this. You see my job is to pose the question and get others to answer it.

The Shoot, Week one, Part one: “Nice Biscuits.”

“Production - it's like going to war. You're dealing with a group of people that's like the size of a platoon. Everybody knows what they have to do. You get in, you get out, you make home wherever it is. You have to deal with what the situation throws you, and it's very stressful, and you can't sleep at night. And the more involved you are with the outcome of it, the more twisted you are inside.” Taken from http://www.arthousemovies.com/

Rehearsal Day Four & Five: “You expect family to sit on this?”

It has been a while since I blogged about the rehearsal days on Bollywood Baraat. It is a little strange doing this now seeing as we have now completed the first week of shooting, but what the hell, better late than never. As you can see I have been crafty and folded both remaining days into one handy blog entry. This is both practical because memory is a hazy thing but also a classic lazy approach to blogging. I am guilty of both things, so sue me, I have been busy.

Rehearsal Day Three – “Next door’s a doctor."

An actor’s life on the road is a hard one if you ask me. You are away from home for long stretches of time living out of a suitcase with none of your “stuff” around you that usually makes you feel comfortable. There is an unwritten rule that if you are going to make any art everyone involved has to be happy. In terms of film, whether that is the script, the costumes, the direction or the actors being happy with their characters – the key word is always “happy”.

Rehearsal Day Two - "And the food won't be any good"

Day two of rehearsal started with a visit from Emma Cains the Production Designer for Bollywood Baraat who is responsible for the look of both the film and theatre elements of the project. Emma brought with her bags and bags of costumes for the actors to try on. So the morning was spent pleasantly trying on clothes which would help the actors physically get into their characters.

Rehearsal Day One - "It will wash off won't it?"

It is a strange thing to be in a room full of talented people. Not only that, it is very strange to be in a room full of talented funny people and call it work. That is where I have been all day, in a room with talented funny people on day one of rehearsals for the film segments of Bollywood Baraat.

Rehearsal week here we come

Here we go.  Rehearsal week for the film segments of Bollywood Baraat is upon us.
